360 Fitness

Did you know that practicing mindfulness can help you reach your fitness goals?

Have you ever said to yourself, “I know WHAT I need to do. So WHY can’t I get myself to do it?”

You know making your fitness a priority will improve every aspect of your life…

You know waking up early to get in a workout will set your day up for success…

You know strength training will make a major difference in your results…

Yet, you keep putting off your workouts, never truly committing to a program. You keep hitting the snooze button, convincing yourself that you’ll exercise after work, even though your schedule doesn’t allow for consistency. You keep skipping the weights to default to cardo-only workouts because it’s what you’ve always done.

Does this sound familiar?

If you know what you need to do and ‘something’ is stopping you from taking the steps, chances are your mindset is what’s getting in the way. Mindset plays a powerful role in your daily motivation, the choices you make in life, and even your overall happiness.

What you may not realize is that having the right mindset has a lot to do with mindfulness. “Mindfulness” sounds like one of those “woo-woo” terms that can mean pretty much anything you want it to. But science shows mindfulness can actually:

  • Boost the results of your workouts,
  • Make it easier to make healthy food choices,
  • Improve your day-to-day feeling of contentment, and even
  • Play a role in your long-term health.

Is mindfulness something that could make a difference in your health and fitness?

The Benefit of Mindfulness

One of the biggest benefits 360 Fitness members share with us is that they finally stop “going through the motions” of what they think they should do. This all comes back to mindfulness. It takes a little practice, but wow is it worth it.

By practicing mindfulness, our members tell us they experience a whole new level of fulfillment, and as a result, they actually WANT to stick to their program instead of continuing to yo-yo their way through life.

Reaching your goals and experiencing lasting success is not just about cardio, strength training, and diet. Mindfulness is a big reason why our clients get such impressive results.

So what is mindfulness?

In a nutshell, mindfulness is when you’re present and in the driver’s seat for your own life. Too often we’re in autopilot mode and let our habits run our life, which is the fastest way to stay stuck or even go backward.

Practicing Mindfulness

Meditation is a great tool to help you become more mindful.

This is because when you’re mindful it basically means you are present and aware – which plays a huge role in your results, motivation, and even your workouts.

Researchers are still investigating exactly how meditation works, but we do know that besides slowing down brain waves, meditation helps you grow more gray matter in your hippocampus (which is linked with improving your mood & focus and slowing down age-related decline in cognitive functioning).

It’s definitely worth considering adding meditation to your fitness toolkit, and it’s easy to get started. Here’s how:

  1. Sit quietly in a comfy chair for a few minutes with your eyes closed.
  2. Focusing on your breath and feeling your belly and chest rise and fall as you inhale and exhale.

That’s it.

Try meditating for a few days, gradually increasing your time as it feels right. Or you can use an app – there are dozens out there, including 10 Percent Happier, Insight Timer (free!), Calm, and Headspace.

At 360 Fitness, we believe that by making your health and fitness a priority, you’ll not only feel better physically and mentally, but you’ll also feel positive results in every aspect of your life. Practicing mindfulness is a critical step in this process.
